ResLab meets RapMan 3.1
Recently, in our lab (http://reslab.elis.ugent.be) we bought a RapMan 3.1 kit on http://www.bitsfrombytes.com/. This kit contains everything you need to build a 3D printer for less than EUR 1000. This movie shows the construction of the kit from scratch to printer. A time lapse video of the printing itself will come soon.

Matrix 300 3D Printer
This is the new Matrix 300 in action.
In this video you will see the STL file being imported into our SliceIT software, manipulated and sent to the 3D printer. You will see standard A4 / Letter paper being loaded and the blade holder easily removed to check the blade depth. Then watch as the Matrix 300 comes to life pulling in sheet after sheet of paper, cutting profiles and applying adhesive to generate a solid model. Finally you will see a block of material being removed and exposing the 3D model inside. Note all the parts of the butterfly are made on the Matrix 300.

This is a video series on the assembly of the whiteAnt CNC/3D printing machine. In this video, the assembly of the extruder motor mount and hinge is shown. This extruder represents one of two different types (DC motor/gearbox, and stepping motor version).
TEDxVienna - Josef Prusa - 3D-Printing
Josef Prusa was never satisfied with things as they are. Fascinated with the way things work, Josef would find better ways on how he could improve it and in several cases, totally changed to a brand new use than what it was originally designed for. At the age of 18 he already published his own chapter in book by O'reilly called iPhone hacks. Since then he makes more and more uses for stuff. In 2010 his main focus of work has shifted to developing Open Source 3D printer project called RepRap (http://reprap.org) and Open Source Hardware generally.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxVienna, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxVienna event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
make-a-make-a-bot-bot: first few prints
yay 3d printer!
Make-A-Bot is a small DIY additive fabricator ("3d printer") using the fused deposition / fused filament fabrication principle. It uses commercial open-source components from Makerbot Industries with custom mechanics and construction. The machine chassis is waterjet-cut aluminum and the pedestal and electronics cabinet are 6mm laser-cut acrylic.
